Most of this region's picking farms sit within about an hour of Hobart, spreading out from Sorell in the east to the orchards of the Huon Valley in the south. Sorell Fruit Farm, about 25 minutes from the city, is the region's best-known multi-crop patch, with berries, cherries, stone fruit, apples and pears through spring, summer and autumn. Westerway Raspberry Farm, further out towards Mount Field, is worth the drive for raspberries and a rotating mix of other berries. Down in the Huon Valley, Platinum Ridge Cherries at Glaziers Bay runs a short cherry season and even lets you rent your own tree for the picking. Strawberries and raspberries stretch from spring into autumn, cherries are a short summer window, and apples and pears take over from late summer. Because Tasmania's season shifts with the weather, it pays to call ahead before you drive out for a specific crop.

Sorell Fruit Farm, about 25 minutes east of Hobart, is the region's flagship multi-crop strawberry patch, typically open October to April or May. Littlewood Berry Farm at Richmond also grows strawberries across a similarly long window, from early November to the end of April, with an $8 per person entry fee that's partly credited toward what you buy.
Cherries run statewide from December through February. Sorell Fruit Farm and Oneys Creek Cherries at Lachlan both pick in the December-January window, while down in the Huon Valley, Platinum Ridge Cherries at Glaziers Bay runs a shed-door season into February and offers a 'rent your own cherry tree' option for families wanting a guaranteed patch.
Berries are the longest-running option, from around October to May with a January-to-March peak for raspberries and blackberries. Cherries are a shorter December-to-February window, and apples and pears take over from February through May. Because seasons shift year to year with weather, it's worth calling the specific farm before you plan a visit around one crop.
Prices vary by farm: Littlewood Berry Farm charges $8 entry (partly credited toward purchases) plus per-kilo strawberries, and Westerway Raspberry Farm charges a small field entry fee then around $18/kg for berries. Iron Creek Bay Estate charges $20 per container for day visitors picking cherries and stone fruit. Several smaller cherry orchards don't publish pricing online, so call ahead to confirm.
It depends on the farm. Iron Creek Bay Estate recommends booking, and Platinum Ridge Cherries and Richmond Peonies & Cherries require it for their limited-season crops. Sorell Fruit Farm, Westerway Raspberry Farm, Littlewood Berry Farm and Bruny Island Berry Farm don't require bookings, but calling ahead is still sensible in a short cherry or peony season.
