Pick Your Own Farms

What fruit is in season in June?

June is the start of winter, and the pick-your-own calendar is at its quietest in the southern states while citrus takes over as the main crop further north. Queensland's Bundaberg and Granite Belt regions move into peak citrus, and southeast Queensland's strawberry season starts early for the warmer months ahead. The Sydney Basin's citrus reaches its own peak, and blueberries begin on the NSW Coffs Coast. The Northern Territory's dry season is in full swing, with melons, pumpkins and tomatoes joining the ongoing passionfruit and citrus harvest. South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT have little or no pick-your-own on offer this month, with their main seasons finished until spring, so June is really a Queensland, NSW, WA and NT story.

New South Wales

Citrus is at its peak in the Sydney Basin and building on the Central Coast, blueberries start on the Coffs Coast, and a few Sydney Basin strawberry patches are still going.

Victoria

Citrus picking starts in the Yarra Valley as the last of the Gippsland apples and Yarra Valley raspberries wind down; little else is on offer this month.

Queensland

Citrus is at its peak in Bundaberg and the Granite Belt, strawberry season starts early around Brisbane and the Scenic Rim, and Bundaberg's own strawberries continue building.

South Australia

South Australia's u-pick season is largely finished for winter, with nothing currently listed in our seasons data; check back as spring approaches.

Western Australia

Citrus builds around Chittering Valley, with the last of the season's Perth Hills apples and persimmons still trickling through.

Tasmania

Tasmania's pick-your-own season is over for winter, with nothing currently listed in our seasons data until spring.

Australian Capital Territory

The ACT's picking season has closed for winter, with nothing currently listed in our seasons data around Pialligo.

Northern Territory

The dry season is in full swing, with melons, pumpkins and tomatoes joining ongoing passionfruit and citrus across the Top End and Katherine.

Frequently asked questions

What fruit is in season in June in Australia?

June is dominated by citrus, at its peak in Queensland's Bundaberg and Granite Belt regions and the NSW Sydney Basin, with the Central Coast and Chittering Valley in WA building towards their own peaks. Southeast Queensland's strawberry season starts early, blueberries begin on the Coffs Coast, and the Northern Territory's dry-season melons, pumpkins and tomatoes join its ongoing citrus and passionfruit harvest.

Can you pick strawberries in June?

Yes, but only in the warmer states. Queensland's Bundaberg and southeast Queensland regions, including around Brisbane and the Scenic Rim, start their strawberry seasons in June, and a handful of Sydney Basin patches in NSW may still have late fruit. South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and the ACT are out of strawberry season entirely by June. Call ahead to confirm a patch is picking.

Is June a good month for citrus picking?

Yes, June is one of the best citrus months. Bundaberg and the Granite Belt in Queensland and the Sydney Basin in NSW are all at or near their citrus peak, with the Central Coast, Yarra Valley and WA's Chittering Valley building towards theirs. Orange and mandarin varieties ripen at slightly different times, so it's worth checking with the farm what's ready before you go.

What's in season for picking near Brisbane in June?

Near Brisbane, June marks the start of the local strawberry season around the Scenic Rim, alongside citrus at its peak further north in Bundaberg and the Granite Belt. It's an early-season month, so patches may still be building up their fruit, and yields can vary. Calling ahead confirms whether a farm's strawberries are ready to pick yet.

Do I need to book fruit picking in June?

Citrus orchards rarely require booking, though early-season strawberry farms around Brisbane sometimes ask visitors to check social media or call before visiting, since patches can still be building up in June. A quick phone call confirms opening days and whether there's enough fruit ready to make the trip worthwhile, especially this early in the season.
