Goulburn Valley has 3 farms where you can pick your own Sunflowers, Flowers and Strawberries across the season. Picking windows shift with the weather — check each farm's status below and call ahead before you drive out.

The Goulburn Valley is around two hours north of the Melbourne CBD, centred on Shepparton and one of Victoria's biggest commercial fruit-growing districts. Despite all that orchard country, very little of it is open to the public for picking. The Big Strawberry at Koonoomoo, on the Murray Valley Highway north of Cobram, is the one dependable pick-your-own here: it opens 9am to 3pm seven days and picks across two windows, roughly October to January and again April to July, weather permitting. Further north at Numurkah, Eden Farm Produce ran a sunflower festival in past summers, but its own site now describes a biodynamic farm shop and online store rather than a picking day, so treat that festival as something to confirm rather than plan around. Outside these two, most of the valley's fruit is grown for wholesale rather than picking, so it's worth calling ahead to confirm a farm is actually open to visitors before making the drive.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I pick strawberries near the Goulburn Valley?

The Big Strawberry at Koonoomoo, on the Murray Valley Highway north of Cobram, is the region's pick-your-own strawberry option. It opens 9am to 3pm seven days and picks across two seasons, roughly October to January and again April to July. Picking is weather-dependent within those windows rather than guaranteed, and the farm doesn't publish a picking price, so ring before you drive out.

Where can I pick sunflowers near the Goulburn Valley?

Eden Farm Produce at Numurkah ran an annual Sunflower Festival in mid-January in past years, but the farm's own site no longer advertises it and we have no current confirmation that it is still running. Check directly with the farm before planning a visit up from Melbourne.

When is the best time to visit the Goulburn Valley for picking?

Strawberries at The Big Strawberry give the valley its longest picking window, running roughly October to January and again April to July. Outside those stretches there's little dedicated pick-your-own on offer here, and most of the district's fruit goes to wholesale rather than to visitors.

How much does fruit picking cost in the Goulburn Valley?

Neither of the valley's picking farms publishes a price online. Ring The Big Strawberry before you go to confirm both that picking is open and what it costs that day; pricing for the Eden Farm Produce sunflower festival has never been published either.
